ARTWORK
EcoPlayer is a multimedia experience to allow visitors to the Copenhagen Zoo to playfully explore and experiment with animal sounds. Scientists are interested in transforming natural sounds in order to understand them better. In this exhibition, visitors move discs to modify the location, pitch, tonality and range of animal sounds, which allows one to explore changes in sounds made by animals. Computer vision is used to track the positions of the discs on the table which then transform features in the animal sounds through filtering and modulation.
Intended as an educational scientific exhibit, one half of the experience describes how sound is transmitted to the ears and includes the table and sound performance discs. The other half of the exhibit describes human and computer vision, and how the system uses vision to sense the action of the discs.
