Clack: Percussive Instrumental Robots

Creatures, Fine Arts Thesis. Cornell University, 2001.
Student Achievement Award in Contemporary Sculpture, International Sculpture Center

Created in 2001, these robots use wooden mallets to strike the floor with autonomous percussive rhythms. Constructed of acrylic and wood, an electric solenoid is used to active the strikers. Since the robots parts are hand tightened, as they strike the floor they eventually shake themselves to pieces in different ways, giving each a different personality and tonality.
